How To Avoid A Hazardous Driver

horn-use-it-dont-abuse-it
What is the best way to avoid being injured in a car accident?  Keep yourself out of dangerous situations.  What is one of the greatest dangers on the road?  Hazardous drivers.  To avoid accidents, motorists should learn how to avoid hazardous drivers.

It is bad enough to be involved in an accident.  Unfortunately, hazardous drivers can also be underinsured or uninsured drivers.  Cases such as that will require the filing of an uninsured motorist claim.  Car accident settlements where everyone involved have proper auto insurance coverage can be complicated enough.  Throw in the issue of an uninsured driver and things become much more complex.

One of the first things that make many people take notice of a hazardous driver is speed.  When you are going 65 MPH and you see a huge pick-up truck fly past you and disappear around the bend in a matter of seconds, it is usually a good indicator of hazardous driving.  Believe it or not, driving far too slowly is also a potential hazard.  People who drive too slowly may just be nervous, overly cautious drivers, but they may also be drivers who are intoxicated or otherwise impaired by drugs.  Their actions may be quite unpredictable and could lead to an accident.

Aggressive drivers are another living road hazard.  Try to steer clear of people who dart in and out of traffic, or those who excessively tailgate other drivers.  Other signs of an aggressive driver are horn honking, yelling, and assorted hand gestures that do not signal a feeling of good will and fellowship to other motorists on the road.  Arguing your point with such a motorist, especially when traveling at a high rate of speed, is never a good idea.  Just get as far away as possible from such drivers. If it is safe to do so, you can report aggressive drivers in Colorado by calling *CSP (*277) on your mobile phone.

One other sign of a possible road hazard is the overall condition of the vehicle.  A car that is riding on two spare tires may be a very good indicator of a poorly maintained vehicle that may break down quickly (or at least start shedding parts as it rolls down the highway).  Along the same lines, a car or truck that is carry a lot of baggage on it is another possible road hazard.  If items are not properly secured to the top or back of a vehicle, they may fly off the vehicle, hitting other cars and/or falling into the roadway.  Drivers of overloaded vehicles also often have restricted vision due to all the stuff on their vehicles, and that also can lead to a car accident.

Avoiding hazardous drivers can be viewed as a matter of common sense.  If someone looks as if they are going to do something stupid or dangerous, stay away from them.  If someone is tailgating your car, pull aside in a safe area and let them pass.  If a car looks like it is going to lose some parts in the near future, do not drive right behind it.  And if all your precautions fail to keep you out of an accident caused by a hazardous driver, contact an attorney.  Car accident settlements can often be reached when you have a good lawyer on your side.  Furthermore, a good attorney can help you with filing an uninsured motorist claim.  Denver has enough sections of dangerous road as it is, so knowing how to also spot the living, breathing (and driving) hazards on the road is one more step towards avoiding a potentially serious accident.
